***Update: We have been informed that there are active harvesting operations in the Sale, Griffin, McCrae, and Mt. Hall riding areas. Previous information stating that there was harvesting in the Keystone riding area was incorrect. We’ve updated this article with the most current information obtained regarding logging activity in unmanaged riding areas. Conditions and operations can change quickly, and this update is intended to help riders plan accordingly and travel safely.

The Ministry of Forests is still reminding everyone that riders should be aware that the Pingston Creek Bridge located at approximately 6.3 km on the Limekiln FSR is closed and unsafe for all forms of travel.

Please continue to read for more information!

General FSR Best Practices:

  • Hauling may be active any day and time of the week
  • Expect blind corners and changing road conditions .
  • Loaded logging trucks have the right of waythey cannot stop or slow quickly.
  • Radio use is highly recommend for the safety of all road users.
  • Use the channel posted at the entrance to the road always.
  • Do not ride sleds on plowed FSRs — it’s illegal and extremely dangerous.
  • Attempt to park off the running surface of hauling roads whenever possible.

These guidelines apply across all FSRs in the region. A little patience and awareness goes a long way in keeping everyone safe.

Limekiln FSR – Pingston Creek Bridge Closure

Riders should be aware that the Pingston Creek Bridge located at approximately 6.3 km on the Limekiln FSR is closed and unsafe for all forms of travel.

The bridge has been assessed by a professional engineer and assigned a 0-tonne load rating. Due to the condition of the structure, using the bridge is strongly not recommended, as there is a real risk of sudden failure that could result in serious injury or worse. The bridge is currently posted with closure signage and physical barriers.

The Ministry has indicated there are plans to remove the existing structure and develop a new access route, with work tentatively planned for summer 2026, pending budget approval. We will share confirmed timelines if and when they become available.

It’s important to clarify that Area 51 itself is not closed, however the Limekiln FSR bridge should no longer be used as a safe access route.

Although Area 51 falls outside of our managed areas, we recognize the loss of easy access is frustrating but this notice is being shared strictly to ensure riders have the information needed to make informed, safe decisions.
