Caribou Agreement Drafts have opened for Public Consultation today and closing in one month. There are two agreements currently being reviewed. The first, the Draft Section 11 Agreement, is a high level document that outlines how the Federal Government and the Provincial Government intend to fund and work together on caribou recovery. It has implications for the entire Province of BC.
The second agreement is a Draft Partnership Agreement between First Nations(Moberly and Saulteau),the Federal plus the Provincial Government. This document is specific to the herds in the South Peace.
We have been told that neither agreement has closed any areas to snowmobiling but a quick review shows that both speak to a need to manage recreational disturbance. How that management will occur and where will be part of a snowmobile specific consultation process slated to start in May after these agreements have closed.
The BCSF will be working with our member clubs to draft responses to both of these. But the more people reading and commenting the better chance of getting a balanced perspective to government.
Please take the time to read and submit your comments directly through https://engage.gov.bc.ca/caribou/section11agreement/.
You are encouraged to comment here to help the BCSF draft our response but be sure to also submit your comments at the above link to be considered by Government!
